Re: I Am Legend

I myself loved the movie. I loved its story and action. I will say that it was sad and a couple of parts scared me a little. Im fine with the religious ending. I know many of you didn't like it, but then maybe you shouldn't have watched it or read the book first so you would have known.

uh... maybe you should take your own advice. If you'd actually read the novel, you'd know the film was nothing remotely like it for the last 40 minutes or so.

As for where I get the Christian aspects:
 click to show spoiler

Christianity isn't universal I'm afraid... nor is monotheism or religion in general...

How would you feel being a black person going to a film that pops out in its final third with a not-so-subtle white supremacist message? Or a homosexual going to see a film that features an effeminate gay villain and a handful of insensitive gay jokes? Or Jerry Fallwell in RENT? Because I'm pretty sure that's how quite a few atheists felt in "I Am Legend"... a wee bit uncomfortable.

I'm not the one complaining about it now am I. I didn't read the book, didn't want to because I'd already heard of the movie and I hate it when people just read a book because a movie of it is coming out.

I can see where you get the Christain aspect if you look at it that way, but the only people who look for that kinda stuff are those who have something against it. Everyone else can just enjoy the movie for what it is.

Re: I Am Legend

i can really see where tsurara is comming from. i remember the jesmus things, and the suicidal imecilism. the first part of the movie was really good, right up to

after that, the movie was off for me, as well as the rest of the evening. well, berserking them in his car was ok, but after that i think they could have done better.

anybody think of this?-

i belive its b/c directors think that most americans want that kind of ending, so they feel that they can live their entire lives doing bad things, but at the last moment be saved. and the shrek placement sickened me.

as for my personal religion, i dont think you could call me any particular one.

i really thought it was pretty awesome. most of the story line was indifferent to most movies. but i agree the ending could have been better. the ending didnt RUIN the movie but i dont think id watch it again. i love the thought of isolation and the acting was great.. i guess it was really just the ending that was a bit off

yes, Will Smith's acting was spot on. i think this and "I, Robot" where his best films. even the dog that played Sam did a really good job. *sob*

i really did stop liking the movie as much after the chick found him, i think it kinda took away from his isolation. methinks if they wanted to go with the theme like that, it would have been better if they hadn't shown up, or shown up and died. then he finished the cure, blah blah blah and didnt die at the end. or at least not pull an Al Queada.

i defiantly agree. after the girl and little boy showed up it really took away. and it may be a bit twisted but i lvoe horror and the thought of isolation and being the last. i love situations that cant be controlled. and i lvoe movies where there is no resolution and this movie was deifantly all that.

movies without a solution are good sometimes, but in the movie's (that was for you, tsurara) case it wount have been soo good. he was working on a cure in the begining, and if they didnt do anything else with it, it kinda would have been pointless, dont you think?

Personally, I find that message as offensive as a Christian would find the message: "God doesn't exist and the church lies to you."

Im different, as i love movies with a sappy ending. I hate movies with no ending or solution. Too depressing, I like to feel uplifted at the end.

And yet, the church has done everything in their power to ensure that films like that are maligned and churchgoers are warned while those of us who are athiests or non-Christians walk into crap this this and get whacked upside the head with bibles.

No thanks.

I'm not annoyed by the content as much as I am the gross double-standard in our society toward differing faiths and belief systems that it illustrates.

And I find the ending's COMPLETE reversal of the the entire point of the original novel disturbing.
Yeah but it always seems that atheist and other religions are the ones always complaining and whining. If i went and saw a movie with budist or jewish undertones it wouldn't bother or ruin the film for me. I'm open to all religions and just because it was shown or sold as their religion is a right way to go wouldn't bother me. I love to see other religions take on things. What are we suppose to do have no religious under tones in a movie. I bet the atheist would love that.

ALso i wouldn't call the Zombies just "different from us". I don't see anything that shouldn't be existing as normal. I would compare them to rabbit dogs that need to be put down. When they became zombies they lost all of their humanity.Though curing them would have been a better route.

PS:Before you ask, I see gays as normal and should be existing. No i wouldn't have them put down. lol

I hate movies like that, as im a sucker for happy endings. I hate movies with no ending or ones that have no resolution. I like to be uplifted at the end.

Re: I Am Legend

I would argue that a major nationwide boycott, mass e-mails being sent, warning pamphlets sent to diocese across the country and gads of news coverage make the Christians out as bigger, and more powerful complainers than the atheists.

Perhaps you don't notice because you're on the "right" side.

It's difficult to reject the religious status quo in post September 11th America as questioning God or the government suddenly equals questioning all that is good, hopeful and American.

I think the non-religious or differently-religious of us who have to endure nativity scenes, religious songs at department stores, the mandatory pledge of allegience at school, the insertion of "God" into our scouting pledges, prayer before games, random sermons from strangers, and the president declaring himself a vehicle of the good of God are entitled to a bit of complaining.

When something is percieved as unfair, that makes it a bit more bitter.

I wouldn't be as striken by "I Am Legend"s religious overtones if the church hadn't just thrown a 3 month-long shit-fit over "The Golden Compass"
