yes, Will Smith's acting was spot on. i think this and "I, Robot" where his best films. even the dog that played Sam did a really good job. *sob*

i really did stop liking the movie as much after the chick found him, i think it kinda took away from his isolation. methinks if they wanted to go with the theme like that, it would have been better if they hadn't shown up, or shown up and died. then he finished the cure, blah blah blah and didnt die at the end. or at least not pull an Al Queada.

i defiantly agree. after the girl and little boy showed up it really took away. and it may be a bit twisted but i lvoe horror and the thought of isolation and being the last. i love situations that cant be controlled. and i lvoe movies where there is no resolution and this movie was deifantly all that.

movies without a solution are good sometimes, but in the movie's (that was for you, tsurara) case it wount have been soo good. he was working on a cure in the begining, and if they didnt do anything else with it, it kinda would have been pointless, dont you think?

Personally, I find that message as offensive as a Christian would find the message: "God doesn't exist and the church lies to you."

Im different, as i love movies with a sappy ending. I hate movies with no ending or solution. Too depressing, I like to feel uplifted at the end.

And yet, the church has done everything in their power to ensure that films like that are maligned and churchgoers are warned while those of us who are athiests or non-Christians walk into crap this this and get whacked upside the head with bibles.

    No thanks.

I'm not annoyed by the content as much as I am the gross double-standard in our society toward differing faiths and belief systems that it illustrates.

And I find the ending's COMPLETE reversal of the the entire point of the original novel disturbing.
Yeah but it always seems that atheist and other religions are the ones always complaining and whining. If i went and saw a movie with budist or jewish undertones it wouldn't bother or ruin the film for me. I'm open to all religions and just because it was shown or sold as their religion is a right way to go wouldn't bother me. I love to see other religions take on things. What are we suppose to do have no religious under tones in a movie. I bet the atheist would love that.

ALso i wouldn't call the Zombies just "different from us". I don't see anything that shouldn't be existing as normal. I would compare them to rabbit dogs that need to be put down. When they became zombies they lost all of their humanity.Though curing them would have been a better route.

PS:Before you ask, I see gays as normal and should be existing. No i wouldn't have them put down. lol

I hate movies like that, as im a sucker for happy endings. I hate movies with no ending or ones that have no resolution. I like to be uplifted at the end.

    Re: I Am Legend

I would argue that a major nationwide boycott, mass e-mails being sent, warning pamphlets sent to diocese across the country and gads of news coverage make the Christians out as bigger, and more powerful complainers than the atheists.

Perhaps you don't notice because you're on the "right" side.

It's difficult to reject the religious status quo in post September 11th America as questioning God or the government suddenly equals questioning all that is good, hopeful and American.

I think the non-religious or differently-religious of us who have to endure nativity scenes, religious songs at department stores, the mandatory pledge of allegience at school, the insertion of "God" into our scouting pledges, prayer before games, random sermons from strangers, and the president declaring himself a vehicle of the good of God are entitled to a bit of complaining.

When something is percieved as unfair, that makes it a bit more bitter.

I wouldn't be as striken by "I Am Legend"s religious overtones if the church hadn't just thrown a 3 month-long shit-fit over "The Golden Compass"

Well what you got to understand is this is mainly a Christian society, so of course you have to endure all that. As i would have to do for all the budda stuff in Asian nations. If you were a little more open minded this wouldn't bother you and you'd be complaining less. I Mean if i moved to Japan i wouldn't be bitching at seeing budda in movies, Tv, and what not. Id respect it, and except it as just a part of the society im living in.

That said, what they did was wrong over the The Golden Compass. So what if it had athiest undertones, didnt keep me from enjoying it. And if they were a little more open minded they too wouldnt have been complaining.

Except that Japan isn't a religious nation. It's a secular one. How many times have you had Shintoism or Buddhism preached to you in anime? None, I'll wager. Because no one in Japan is concerned with religion as anything but decoration and ritual.

And so is the United States. That's why we have a law seperating church and state... and why George Bush invoking God in his speeches is such bull****. The US is a melting pot... there are more different belief systems represented there than just about anywhere else in the world: and yet Christianity (and to a lesser extent, Judaism) seem to be of the belief that allowing public expression of ANY other religion (or lack of religion) is a threat while aggressively supporting and promoting anything designed to get their own message across. That strikes me as more closed-minded than having an issue with a movie I paid to see, enjoyed and reviewed positively being personally alienating.

What you WOULD need to endure in Japan is being treated like a criminal every time you enter the country, being carded after dark by police for doing nothing at all, not having people sit next to you on public transportation because you look different, being talked about as if you don't understand Japanese even when you do, listening to ultra-nationalist trucks spouting hateful "return to pre-WWII" isolationist militarist policies on a near daily basis and watching television and films that ocaisionally have marked anti-American sentiments present in them.

I hardly think that's something we should be defending as a productive aspect of ANY society.

According to Buddhism: you're not going to hell.

    According the Christianity: I AM.

That's makes a bit of a difference in guaging how pleasant it is to be a non-believer living with those who do.

And we're off-topic. Can we talk about the movie again?
