The first 2 thirds were fabulous and I was in tears at one point (for which I got a lot of shit from my boyfriend later)... but the ending just felt insincere, preachy and I can't help but say I was a little offended. A movie based on a totally theologically-independent Science Fiction film (in which none of the latter half's happenings actually occured) somehow became a heavy-handed Christian message movie. It seems odd that I wouldn't have been "warned" about this by some group of crusading buddhists, jews, muslims or atheiests seeings as the church has done all it can to demand that a film with a supposedly atheist message (The Golden Compass) is out to destroy society as we know it simply by existing >_<;

Seriously... if films like the DaVinci Code and The Last Temptation of Christ incite moral outrage, why the hell do I have to keep watching stuff like this that's designed to make me feel uncomforatble that I'm not Christian "like everyone else"?

I'm perfectly capable of accepting religiousity in the characters... but when the theology invades the narrative of a supposedly secular film: it REALLY hurts the film for those of us who aren't buying what God's got to sell :/

That said, I paid my $10 for "The Passion of the Christ" and was moved by it. But I went in KNOWING it was a film about the Christian religion. I read "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" AND saw the films... and was fine because the religious messages only make themselves obvious to those whom they speak to personally. I don't mind THINKING about religion... I don't like having it crammed down my throat in the context of zombie movies

The Christianity issue aside. The whole thing "borrowed" a lot from Castaway and 28 Days Later... which were both better movies... but seeing New York that empty was pretty wicked and the "quiet" scenes were lovely (and there were more of them than most big-budget action flicks would have bothered with). Will Smith is a competant actor... the dog was amazing... and the sfx work was top notch. If only it had been a more courageous movie and at least attempted to tackle the moral issues and dichotomy between in "good" and "evil" presented in the novel...

    Have you seen it?
    What did you think?

truthfully i don't think putting a christian message is that big of a deal, if you don't believe in it just don't pay attention to it, don't "heed" in it. i mean drugs, alcohol, and sex are put in every movie, that doesn't mean i want to be a drunk, drugie, prostatute. i mean stuff we don't want to see are everywhere you just have to learn to ignore it instead of being offended by it. plus who knows mayne someone thought that the moral or dialogue was good, and that person maybe told all their friends to watch it and they told their friends and etc. hey and producers will do what they want to make money.

I completley agree wtih you. Even if I am christian, I'm not at all offended. There will be people out there that might interpret that message completley different, but are we to fight about it? I thought it tied in just fine in the movie. I got 6 of my friends to go watch it over the weekand, and they all came back saying how good/sad it was. I also agree about the producer thing. They have one chance to make this movie a sucess, and even with the religious comments, is there movie bad? No, In fact it is #1 in the box office with a whopping 76.5 million dollars made.

Saw it. I give it a 3 out of 10. It sucked badly. Will Smith did a good job with his role. They depicted the survival and avoiding them poorly. The ending was the worst. The attampts of makng people cry with him killing himself to save two others, and him killing his own dog, I didn't find it too...well played out. The original film "Last man on Earth" with Vincent Price is tons bebtter in my opinion. I also expected more action, though it's good it wasn't all shooty shooty bang bang. Still wasn't worth the money.

It's based on a book, not another film. The Last Man on Earth was based on the book as well.

I saw it yesterday. It was weird and it didn't make any sense. I'll give it a 2/5. It was crap compared to Will's other movies.

    Re: I Am Legend

lol ^^ I didn't like that movie much at all... I as expecting that it will be a horror movie, but it was more a psychological movie, but, for such, the actor was just too funny, he made me smile too much at the start to make me feel pitty for him. Or maybe it was just how I watched it- I didn't get into it much.

You are talking about the ending? That there was a Christian church in the shelter? ^^ lol Well that could be explained simply by the fact that it was in US, near New York, so the majority of people would probably be Christians. (The girl could have been in any religion, it wasn't specified as far as I saw it (well ok, she should have been a very confused muslim ))

Hovewer even I noticed and felt it kinda odd that there was just that church... I ussualy don't take notice of such things and it's such a small case, but it did give an odd feeling. On big screen I guess it really could be a bigger hit...

I really don't think a great fuss should be made about this. Did you want the movie makers to put in a church, a mosque, a temple, a russian church etc? Though I udnerstand it's upsetting that the movie changed like that. It was indeed quite a turn. But really, it just was a very bad ending... His sacrifice didn't even move me much. Sheesh... I didn't cry in this movie at all- it's a good sign- the movie is bad

    Re: I Am Legend

Maybe im just not effected by religion at all because i kinda liked the ending of i am legend, emphasis on kinda, but the movie as an overall i just take everything at face value.

i mean if Christians were attacking everything unchristian then where would all the horror flicks and pron go. its people that watch something and automatically get upset over relatively nothing that give religious people a bad name.

oh and before you say anything I am an atheist... so there =P
