Megumi Hayashibara - She sings lots of songs. But is more known as the one who sings the intro song to Love Hina and does Naru's voice in the anime. She has online manga she writes. i should go get the link.

    Re: Japanese Singers.

    hmm...

odd that many have failed to mention Dir en grey

oh well... Dir en grey is a Visual Kei/J-Rock band made up of members of the short-lived band La:Sadie's
the band's lineup is Kyo (Vocals), Kaoru (Lead Guitar & Composer), Die (Rhythm Guitar), Shinya (Bass), and Toshiya (Drums)
most of their songs have a dark, depressing tone
most are soft, some are heavy and filled with hate and angst
while a small few are actually upbeat and happy (e.g. "JESSICA")
Kyo writes all the lyrics and is the self-proclaimed "Prophet" of Dir en grey
Kaoru composes most of the songs, mainly the epic songs that are over 8 minutes like "MACABRE", "Akuro no Oka" and (one of my favorites) "Mazohyst of Decadence"

other Visual Kei bands include Psycho le Cemu which have somewhat cute, happy music and quite humorous videos
    they rock hard though

An Cafe (also known as Antic Cafe or Antique Cafe) is filled with cute Visual Kei/J-Rock ... blah blah blah ...

Onmyouza is a Visual Kei band with a female lead singer and their sound reminds me of the death metal acts in Europe
they did the OP to the anime, Basilisk

other good Visual Kei bands and artists as well are...
Miyavi (lead singer of Due'le Quartz), Gazette, Alice Nine, Kaggra, and many many more
I am too lazy to give them descriptions
hmm... "Jibun Kakumei" from Miyavi kicks ass!!

    yup...

there are so many Visual Kei and J-Rock bands in my collection...
    good times

    Re: Japanese Singers.

Like what the others mentioned, I think the music of Do As Infinity (some famous songs are Fukai Mori from Inu Yasha and Tooku Made from Vampire Hunter D) and Asian Kung-fu Genration (Haruka Kanata, an opening song of Naruto and Rewrite, from Full Metal Alchemist) are noteworthy of mentioning again, as well as Megumi Hayashibara, who also has a lot of great songs from Shaman King and The Slayers. I also would like to add Shimokawa Mikuni, she sang some songs from Full Metal Panic and Ritsuko Okazaki if you're into calm and mellow songs.
