i have noticed over the years of watching anime that there are more vocal
songs then just music its self can anyone tell me why? my self i think its
pretty good because the words sort of describe a certain view for the anime.

but i would like to see a few where there less vocal and more music just for
the fact the vocal music can be distracting a lot i know this may seem odd
for most but i have always wondered why they add music with vocals and less
anime with just music playing.

it may seem i answered my own question but not really its just something
i have always thought about and thought i would ask what everyone else
thought or maybe could mention.

One of the reasons is that the common use of JPop groups for opening/closing themes and background music is that their inclusion is intended to promote the sales of music CDs in the Japanese market place, a trend that has long been lost in the US Market... (when was the last time you purchased a US TV music soundtract CD???...) This also explains the use of pop singers as voice actors in many a anime series...

They probably have a lot of vocals in anime because they are hoping people will buy the soundtrack to the anime because they liked the songs. Personally I think it's a good idea, I didn't even really like music until I got into anime stuff.

I generally prefer instrumental music in anime; no chance of a crappy singer or bland lyrics ruining a perfectly good scene. But I can get into vocal songs that are interesting and not the standard Jpop fare. For instance, the opening theme song of Elfen Lied is dark and operatic, and the opening theme of Gunslinger Girl is a great indie rock song by The Delgados.

I like the animes with vocals in them a lot, and it does get people to buy the CD. The only problem I have is will these sountracks play in a U.S. CD player? Most likely not, unless it is a domestic release.
