OK this is not a torrent or illegal link. Radiohead has released their latest album on their website without any record label, then you can choose the price you want to pay for the album, even you can decide not to pay a dime for it.
This is a new tactic from artist who really see no money from the record labels and whant to release them to their fans. How are they planning on making money, concerts....

You are supposed to donate something for it though. But indeed you don't really have to.
This is what I was saying in the other thread about archiving your own CDs. Music is for the fans and should be free. Major corporations try to make every little penny they can and they try to bend the laws to their benefit to do so.
I bet they will get more fans from this than ever before. That is if this album does not suck.
well this is just the start, I think more and more bands will go for this kind of distribution, specially niche bands like radiohead... I dont quite agree with you solking, music has a value even for the fans, music shouldnt be free, the artists deserve to earn something for their hard work, the RIAA is the one that should dissapear as they are the ones profitting from the artists talent...
Artists get most of their money from touring anyway.
I know this would make me check out there cd.I hope some others will follow Radiohead and start letting the fans decide how they pay for the records not the music corporations deciding for us.
They make more money with tours any way so it wont hurt them to much if they due.

I think folks are overlooking an important part of this. Radiohead isn't "giving away a cd for free"... they're trusting in their fans, as fans to decide what THEY think music is worth. In other words, it's an honor-based experiment designed to cut out a major record label etirely and redefine the way we get our music. If no one pays a cent for the cd: it's obviously a failed one.
If you want it to succeed: you should probably pay SOMETHING...
