I just saw this film and ordered the book. I just wanted to hear interpretations and opinions of others of it.
I found it to be a high quality film, if it is a little disturbing. I began to watch this film with the anticipation that it is a overrated phenomenal concerning the praise that I have heard. I was happy to know that in my opinion it deserved such praise. I enjoyed the directing technique, and while it was very 'choppy' it was done so for a purpose and very comprehensible (unlike films such as The Tracey Fragments).

for all of you a little in the dark, here's a quick
summary of the film.

The main message I got across was that these four individuals all were looking for happiness in their own definition, and mildly achieved it at one moment, even if it was under false circumstances. All they wanted to to be happy, basically.

I did not like the movie. The plot was as you said choppy and the dialog was uninspiring. This film either is one people like or hate. I certainly was the latter. Okay I have to admit that Jennifer Connally is hot and the seen with her and the other girl was pretty hot and heavy, but when a film maker has to resort to an incongruent lesbian sex scene to get your interest things are bad. And by the way that part was unneccessary, I mean don't get me wrong sex and nudity have a place as artistic tools. But that was not artistic on any level, it was near porn.

Good Job on referencing Perfect Blue though, mean the director was not affraid to use some scenes from anime.

I think that the point was far from trying to get your interest on such a dark sequence, and it was certainly not for artistic purposes. Such a disturbing, sexually deviant scene was meant for you to see that she was at a level of desperation for money, and was even going as far as that to get it. Between her withdrawal symptoms from drugs and her hallucinations, I really think that if the director was trying to get you interested or make an artistic mark, he would not look there. That scene was over the top, but it served it's gruesome purpose, even if it was an exaggeration to some. He was creating a horrific scene, not a sensually alluring one.

I understand not liking a movie perfectly, especially one with such a subject matter such as this.

I think that the directing was genius! Not to mention Wayne did a great job in this serious role instead of comedy.

The movie to me is a play on peoples fantasies and what they would do and how far they would go to gain it family, escaping, love, or the red dress (I'm just kidding lol). You can't escape life without it turning back on you is my interpretation of the movie.
