![]() ![]() | It seems to me that we are not coming up with any truly new movies. Why is it that all the new movies are just a book or a game being turned into a movie. There don't seem to be any movies that someone just created out of thin air. And the horror movies aren't really scary they're just more gruesome. I'm dissapointed and tired of the same things being made. Different charaters, different environment but the same story over and over. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The Same Old Story Grumble Grumble Grumble One of the issues that have been driving this trend is the cost of producing a Hollywood blockbuster, easily a cool one hundred million dollars or more. (In comparision, the cost of the first 'Star Wars' movie was in the neighborhood of twelve and half million dollars...) Production studios and Venture Capitalist live in fear of the next experimental disaster (e.g. 'Water World') and as a result, don't want to take the risk of funding something new and different, (such as the proposed live action EVA movie) and want to stick to the same tried and true formulas...

The video game industry has the same problem. It now costs so much to build a game world from the ground up that producers will plan on buiding sequels into the franchise just to help lower development costs. George Lucas just announced that he was getting out of the movie making business...itleast for the big screen movies. For the cost of 1 star wars big buget movie he could make 20 - 30 made for TV 2 hour movies. And he'd probably see more profit to boot!

![]() ![]() | Re: The Same Old Story Well, I really don't have a problem with movies based on books and games. I mean I love books and I usually love movies based on books. If there is anything with movies these days that I have a problem with is the number of remakes of old movies. I think you should leave the classics alone and not try to make a new, supposedly better version. Usually it isn't better. Like Mr.Deeds, the new movie is funny and I love Adam Sandler but the old one is so much better.
