    Spielberg does Ghost!

DreamWorks has acquired the rights to the classic Japanese manga GHOST IN THE SHELL and will adapt the series into a 3-D live-action feature. Producer Avi Arad (formerly of Marvel Studios) was shopping the project around Hollywood where Universal and Sony were also in the chase. But Spielberg himself took a particular interest in the project and once that happened, it was all she wrote. Says Spielbergo: "GHOST IN THE SHELL is one of my favorite stories. It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks." GHOST began as a manga in the late-80s and was eventually adapted into three anime films, two TV series and a number of video games. It's unclear what plot the DreamWorks movie might take considering the different variations of the franchise all followed different story and time lines. You can expect the same covert ops unit in a futuristic society. It doesn't appear that GHOST would be a project that Spielberg is interested in possibly directing. I would expect his involvement to be similar to how he worked on TRANSFORMERS. Jamie Moss, who wrote STREET KINGS, is writing the script and can expect a couple of phone calls from Spielberg.

Sounds like a completely redundant project to me. The films themselves have a buttload of 3D elements and so have the SAC series.

I honestly don't see why a project like this has to be made. It's like they want to make the people even more lazy than they already are.

True, it would be more intresting if they refilmed it in the style of a regular sci-fi like say Minority Report or I, Robot. I'd still watch it tho, just to see what they changed.

With live-action movies of Speedracer, DBZ, and Evangelion in the works, why not GitS?

I'm personally excited about it, especially if Spielberg has his hands on it. And like Tych has said, "Who would you get to play Motoko? She has to be hot, good at action, and into girls. Giggidy."

Regardless of what happens, I'm personally going to see the upcoming GitS, Evangelion, and DBZ (for laughs) movies. I will, however, avoid Speedracer like the plague. We can only hope the other 3 (specifically GitS, and especially NGE) movies turn out to be more adult-oriented.

I'm with Hassun for this. I want to see these movies in hope that they'll own but in all reality all I can do is realize that there going to suck. From what I hear the DB movie has been changed so much its not even the same story. Evangelion is being smart and waiting to see how the Robotech movie will do(Which probably won't do bad since all typical Americans love war movies). Speed Racer will be good as a kids movie which I'm going to watch to see how much the movie industry can slice and dice my childhood memories. Overall there will be a couple that might be good but overall I really don't think anime based movies will do well in America.
