TiVo, cable DVR, or Lite Brite and my imagination

I’ve been into my late twenties for awhile now and I’ve been able to afford more and more useless electronics as of late. Recently I’ve been bugged incessantly for one of these damn TiVos

TiVo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I could get a DVR from my cable provider but they’re a horde of cheating bastards so I’d rather keep them out of my life as much as possible.

The Lite Brite is totally awesome but doesn’t record my programs.

Caveat emptor. Don’t be in a rush to buy a huge ass 1080p flat panel LCD, this purchase will lead to HDMI cables, surround sound system, HD cable box, component cables for your aging systems, new progressive scan DVD/Bluray/HDDVD player, new entertainment center to fit the monstrosity…the list goes on T_T

My questions are... Should I get a TiVo? Is there an alternative?

Have you had experience with the system?

Am I whipped because the TiVo is for my gf to record her soaps and the fact is I rarely watch tv anymore?

Since you're whipped, i dont know why you ask.
And since she's already your girlfriend why go the extra mile???. :P

I'd go with the Tivo HD DVR, but that depends if you are willing(and possibly so) to buy it for 300 odd dollars...but longterm, if you arent using it then you are MAJORLY whipped on a whole different level. lol.

As for alternatives, BellExpressVU's PVR satellite systems work fairly ok., The 5100 Models are probably a lot more preferred than their 9200 series.

I could afford it, but I'd rather have my balls back. So unless somebody comes up with some fantastic TiVo testimonial I'm probably gonna cave and get a PS3 :E
