Nothing wrong with that. After conquering Halo & halo2 on normal, I then stepped up to the next difficulty, till I'd beaten it on it's hardest. It's fun to challenge yourself at times.

Oh, & I'll agree with you that battling Elitest A$$holes isn't much fun. Well, until you win, or even decimate them. That's when my sadistic side enjoys their whining...

Re: true gamers

Readign these posts brings up a question, what if one makes the games are they to be considered gamers, or just nerds who invented them?

Re: true gamers

ok, first off, i'm one of those elitist's you mention only minus the lan parties... but yea. i dont take any offence because i see it as your opinion and in all actuality i agree with you. you are someone i would considered "elite" depending on how often you play. for me, gameing is nearly an every day occurance and when i'm not playing a game i'm talking about one (weather it be a review of one i've finished or and update on one i'm currently playing or tips and anything of the nature.) so yea... me=no social life.lol. i consider a true gamer to be anyone who's avid about video games and someone who plays nearly any game just to give it its chance.

most the so called "elitist's" i've met have their heads so far up their rear that they can't stop to take a wiff of fresh air and enjoy a conversation about things because they beleive themselves to be all knowledgeable and nobody can tell them anything they didn't already know. i find it funny too because i'm usually the guy who picks these peoples brains and then proves them wrong that there is something they didnt know. of cours they rebuttle with something i didnt know and then go right back to their all knowing attitude but i find satisfaction in the stupified look on their faces when i prove they dont know everything.

i would consider you an avid gamer simply because you mentions two MMOs that require you to invest a LOT of game time to get anywhere or do anything (i play WoW myself and i have a few new MMO's picked out for when i get home) which means you care enough about a game to invest time into learning it and finding the history of it ( if you're not biest about the games you play i recomend a text based RPG MMO called imperian. send me a PM if you want the web address) and thus getting the full experience out of the game. most people i meet who play MMO's and consider themselves elite (one of the guys i was deployed with in fact) have never learned about the game or played any games leading to it let alone read any books about it. i know a lot of people who play WoW who consider themselves elite and they have no IDEA what warcraft 1 and 2 are.

what i despise most is when people who consider themselves "elite" are hypocritical about the games they play. i myself play nearly everything ( and i mean everything.. i'ves played sesemestree for the NES and barbie for the SNES... barbie was a lot harder than i expected too. lol) but i tend to shy away from the sports games because of 2 things. 1.) i dont know enough about sports to really know whats "allowed" and whats not and 2.) i SUCK at them so i stay away from them. when it comes to an RPG or a FPS or even a RTS it doesn't matter to me if its on a console or pc or handheld. i'll play it just to see if i like it. to me, the definition of a true game is simple.

a person who enjoys a game enough to invest time into it and pass knowledge on to others.

if you simply pick up a controller and play for an hour because you're bored, not a true gamer (unless you get bored REALLY often and thats pretty much your escape every time.) also if you like to look for glitches or flaws or you strive to beat a game, ANY game, i consider you a true gamer. as far as the hypocritical retards who claim gamers are only made through online experience and lan parties... yea. nuff said... but i'll continue to say yea.. they're elite retards at best. as far as gaming goes, if you enjoy them, play them. who needs labels anyways?

well i personaly play 2 MMOs, Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft. BUT befor that i played normal console games. and i AM a gamer girl. i can tell u the history of every Zelda character. how many times princess peach has been kidnaped and tell u that ive played over half my life on my console. playing in a "lan party" or MMOs DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GAMER! lol, heck i met my husband on a game, and he was also a GM for a online game.
a real gamer is some1 that knows about the game he/she plays, knows tricks and tips about the game, that gets into the story, and the characters. a casual player is some1 just picks up the controller and plays it to get rid of boredom and then puts it down and doesnt even think about the story.
lol well thats my rant ^^;; and thats my oppinion of what a gamer is. ^^ and im sure ur a gamer too~ (btw when i play a mmo i also solo alot too XD lol)

Re: true gamers

If there is a definition of true gamer(Which is certainly don't think, but if we're going by levels of "hardcoreness", then I guess it can be debated), I'm loath to include people who play MMOs almost exclusively in that bunch. Playing WoW or Guild Wars, something as mainstream as those can often be considered casual. There are lots of people who clock massive amounts of hours on games, sometimes just one game, but aren't even close to being dedicated gamers.

Also, where would the rabid news followers fit in with this whole "gamer or true gamer" thing? You know, like the people who hang on every GDC 08 update as it's occuring right now(Like me!), and so forth. If someone has IGN/Gamespot/1Up bookmarked, does this make them more apt to be called serious gamers?

Re: true gamers

I never been to a lan party or anything like that. I play solo most of the time b\c its funner and easer to think when I'm playing stratigies game. So ya you are a gamer you just don't like playing online and theres nothing wrong with that

Re: true gamers

I think a gamer is the one who know all whereabouts of (a) game(s) ... like i have unconsciously memorized everything in games like Devil May Cry (i know all objects weapons effects and how can they be done) or Heroes of Might and Magic (i know every creature's statics) .. i'm crazy i know ...
