I really think that shikamaru can be a jounin easily because he can lead a team out very well and he is a very intelligent person although he is lazy sometimes...:rolleyes1:

Well, he's a Chuunin Examiner after the timeskip. Close enough.
I guess that though he has the ability to become a jounin,I doubt he has the ability to dedicate his time to very dangerous missions.For Shikamaru,I believe that for him,status doesn't really matter.
The reason Shikamaru became chuunin was because everyone else was too interested in Gaara the one-tailed beast, and Shikamaru was the only one trying. He could never become chuunin.
