Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
I remember watching the uncut version (from Mexico). it was really funny not beasue you would get to see the characters nake but because how they acted while they were naked. One thing I hated was how in the american version they would try to draw on top of the orinal drawings just so you could not see the characters naked.

Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
ive only read vlume one and thats enough you see bulma naked in the shower goku naked catching fish
Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
eh, i don't see the harm in a wild little boy running around naked from time to time... i mean, isn't that what they're suppose to do? besides, it's not even being drawn in a provacative way, but in a comedic one! besides, fun things are sometimes funnier when done naked!
as for censorship, i don't see it as something that limits you... i see that it can make you more creative, thinking of different ways to make something funny/interesting while staying in the rules. but, i do belive in TOO much censorship. i have no problem taking swearing and blood out of kids cartoons/anime cuz American (since i'm from there, i'll talk about it from that view) cartoons have never had that before. sure, it was a lot more violent, but there was no blood or cuss-making. in a way, i think the censorship is funny! look at Yu-Gi-Oh!
Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
I'll admit, I've only seen Dragon Ball Z when it was shown on Cheez TV, a early morning cartoon show that's now been replaced with another one, but when I saw the adds for the uncut Anime on DVD, I was surprised. Man, did they cut out all the blood & gore...
I'll admit, when used sensibly, censorship can be a good thing. It stops kids too young to understand or who'll get screwed up by certain things, well, getting screwed up :P. But the way it's going these days, Spanish Inquisition anyone...
I personally really like the censored/uncensored version idea. One for the kiddies, one for the not-so-young kiddies :D . I think it could work. It might need a little more investment at first, to cover printing 2 different versions of the same thing, but it might just create even more interest.
Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
whats wrong anyway having little nudity in a manga, they are just like spices in food... it gives excitement and thrill...a spice something to talk about... and too much spices are not so good...
Re: Nudity in Dragon Ball manga
You have to consider in Japan nudity is not as big of a deal as it is in the US. They still have hot springs and public bath houses.
Normally, they find the smutty jokes of Married...with Children more harmful than upfront nudity.

Not quite; medieval Christianity was more "meh" on the subject of nudity. The public baths, which serviced both men and women, were quite popular in the Middle Ages. In all places prior to the 9th century, and in many places after, Christian baptism was received in the nude. Sure, there were vocal prudes then, as there are now. But the shunning of the human body as a dirty and pornographic thing didn't really come into its own until the 16th-17th centuries, with the rise of movements like Puritanism. This was well after the Middle Ages.
