As for the writing thing, basically he wrote "Tell me what you see" on the wood, then showed it to you since he normally can't talk underwater. The reason he could earlier was because he was using his "breath underwater" spell, which allowed him to act as if he was above water breathing & speech wise. Mind you, his sword normally does have writing on it, it's just he's powered it down a bit so it's hidden. I'm using a character I've had for a while, just tweaking him for this. For this thing, he'll get pretty nasty in a fight, but he won't be very powerful otherwise. Sword fighting has always been his best skill...

Shouldn't really matter. Haven't you ever heard of a dark & mysterious enemy few know about ?

Personally I don't think it should be that big a problem. Just join in the fun. That is what it's all about. So your a little late jumping back in to the action. Doesn't matter.
