Hi, I just started watching Bleach on Adult Swim about 3 weeks ago, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on what the show is about.

The story takes place in Tokyo, and talks about a 15 years old boy by the name "Ichigo Kurosaki". There is something particular about Ichigo, and that's the fact that he can see ghosts! One night when he came home from a night out, he found his family in desperate need of his help, they were being attacked by a monster know as a "Hallow", which is a human soul who didn't go to Heaven or Hell. While trying to save his family he encounters a young girl with a katana who answers to the name of "Rukia Kuchiki" and is a shinigami, an angel of death. She, like many others came to the human world to destroy hallows and allow human souls to reach the Soul Society, also known as Heaven. Although it is impossible for a human to see shinigamis or hallows our young hero seems to be very much capable of doing so. Furious by the attack on his family Ichigo rushed towards the hallow in an attempt to kill it, but before he could react the hallow counter attacked him with its mighty teeth. As Ichigo stared blankly into what he thought was going to be his death, Rukia interfered and threw herself in front of him making the hallow attack her instead of him. She had sacrificed herself for him, and now lay half eaten by the hallow. Though with the last of her powers Rukia tell's Ichigo that there is only one way to save himself and his family. Astonished Ichigo accepts any conditions, and with that Rukia took her sword and pierced the heart of Ichigo to transfers her powers to him and allow him to become a shinigami! Ichigoto knows he has no time to hesitate, and so a second later the arm of the hallow is cut and soon after that the rest of it was completely destroyed. Now Ichigo standing stronger then ever with his new shinigami outfit and monstrous sword, is happy that he has saved his family and the life of Rukia, but he is unaware that this isn't going to be the last time he will have to do so, and so the story of Bleach begins.

Well, when I watched the first episode on youtube, I thought it was too cheesy, you know, the typical guy finds out he's the chosen one or the strongest type of story. But after a while, my friend told me it gets loads better afterwards. I'm currently watching the series in a super slow pace which is two eipsodes per week and I have to stay up until 12 when I have to wake up at 5. But it's worth it, it's really good.

bleach is about these special souls called shinigamis ( death god or soul reaper) these things are meant to place souls at rest especially to stop some sort of soul deamon called a hollow. These shinigamis use special swords called zanpaktous taht are able to cut souls. Only zanpaktous can cut shinigamis and so normal humans cannot kill them. normal humans can't see them anyways but sometimes some humans opbtain some sort of spiritual power that ebnables them to see shinigamis.
its my most favorite anime and i suggest you watch it it is tha bomb

The show was called "bleach" because the color of ichigos hair. i was told this by a websource who is annonimus

Let me try to sum it up in one cohesive sentence.

Bleach is about a character who suddenly finds himself wrapped up in another world of adventure.

Basically. He gets powers from gods of death. He uses those powers to defeat monsters. He winds up going on different adventures. (dont wanna spoiler it)

anyways, its awesome. He does stuff. Powers up. a lot.
He looks out for his friends. He powers up more.
He does some cool poses.
Then he powers up.
Just fabulous.

'Bleach follows the life of Ichigo Kurosaki, a 15-year-old high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a shinigami (Soul Reaper or, literally, "death god") named Rukia Kuchiki, who crosses paths with him one day while searching for a hollow (an evil spirit). During the ensuing confrontation with the spirit, she is wounded and forced to transfer virtually all of her powers into Ichigo. Thus the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin. Together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on wayward souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters and their past, rather than the actual occupation of the shinigami. However, as events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of these gods of death on the "other side" called Soul Society.'
