let's add a little meat here.

Both have the qualities to be his most important.

Orihime: She's still working on her powers and looks to ichigo for support. Ichigo is more than happy to oblige, but i think orihime is more dependent on ichigo than he is to her.

Rukia: the person who gave ichigo his powers and the whole reason he went to the soul society. i believe rukia is more important to him mainly because if it wasn;t for her, ichigo would end up going through most of his life never knowing who he truly is, or why he has the abilities he does.

(plus i'm an ichigoxrukia fanboy XP)

i dunno if anyone remembers but i THINK Urahara and Ichigo's Dad are responable for Ichigo becomeing a shinigami, and half holow to... Ichigo's dad is a shinigami to, if anyone remembers.. and a good friend of Urahara's at that to... and Urahara gave Rukia the defective gigai, or artificial body, in the first place... think it was all planed out

yes, ichigos dad is a shinigami.

the gigai, though, had nothing to with ichigo receiving his powers. that was all just so that ichigo would go into the soul society, or perhaps for another reason that i havent figured out.

he became half hollow through urahara's training because byakuya disabled ichigo's ability to become a shinigami.

so as appealing as a conspiracy sounds, the anime proves us wrong.

i mean rukia wasn't at her fullest in the first episodes... she couldn't even kill a holow.. and was forced to give her powers to ichigo... and sry i don't remember that byakuya disabling ichigo's ability to be a shinigamy thing .. can u PM me to refresh my memory pls ??

When Byakuia and Renji came to the real world to get Rukia,Ichigo fought them,nearly beat Renji and then Byakuia pierced Ichigo with he's sword in the 2 points of he's body that disabled him to use he's reyatsu and he's shinigami powers.And that's how it happened.

Rukia is more important by far. There is the love interest to take into consideration. I mean, He doesn't really love Orihime, but she loves him.They are childhood friends, that is where they draw the line. The sheer level of abuse that Ichigo takes to save both of them is nauseating, But still Ichigo has a side to him that he doesn't show to anyone but Rukia. And the fact that they fight together on a regular basis helps. (Orihime and Ichigo really never fight together. She is more of a Field Medic.)
