I have thought this for a while and today really made it plausible in my mind.

Tobi is Danzo. The Madara bit is just a way of confusing Sasuke and controlling him. He even mentioned Danzo in his conversation with Sasuke to further the misdirection.

Why did Tobi's mask only have an opening for 1 eye and it is the same eye Danzo has keep hidden? And now Danzo reveals he just happens to have the Sharingan in the same eye?

Same hair style and lines in the face? Plus from Danzo's actions thus far as Hokage it makes it very apparent he isn't satisfied with just being Hokage.

either that or the reason why danzo has the eye is he's as old as madara and he has madara's left eye... hell.. he might even be the reason why madara is so pissed at the leaf village

To follow your theory, Tobi seems to be impossible to hit and might be an apparition made by the Sharingan, or some other ninjitsu technique.


Just as long as they don't retcon the fact that the first hokage beat Madara's sorry hind quarters.
Kakashi seems to be doubting it.

I have different ideas about this matter. Here they are:

Madara is just Madara and Danzo is just an old supporter of Madara.

• • It is confirmed that Danzo and Orochimaru collaborated in the past, but it could be more than just an old war general funding a mad scientist for controversial superweapons that could be used for the salvation and prosperity of a striving country. What if Danzo's goal is to create an army of loyal soldiers that believe in the same ideal as Madara? How would he do this? Using Orochimaru's research.
    
    Danzo was highly responsible for the Uchiha Massacre. It is also likely that Danzo was responsible for the cleanup as well and during the cleaning up, it is plausible that Danzo's Foundation gained access to the Sharingan eyes. As secretive as they can be, it shouldn't be hard for them to cover it up or make the extraction and storage of the eyes a heavily guarded secret.
    
    His subordinates in Foundation/Root are already ridiculously loyal to Danzo and there is also a failsafe just in case that would keep all of Danzo's secrets safe and secure in the form of a curse seal. If Danzo transplanted the Sharingan eyes into his subordinates, he could keep them all under control if he tweaks the programming of the curse seal to detonate if any of his subordinates become rogue and try to rebel against Danzo.
    
    Another way for Danzo to implement Orochimaru's research into his own goals and ambitions would be to use Orochimaru's research on genetic manipulation to alter and rewrite the genes of his own subordinates along with himself to increase compatibility with the Sharingan to their own bodies.

Madara and Danzo are both the same person and not the same person at the same time.

• • When Minato sealed the Kyuubi away into Naruto, he used three dojutsu in order to do it. The first separated the Kyuubi's soul from its body where it awaited consumption by the Shinigami. The second split the Kyuubi's chakra/soul into two. The third would seal away one half of the Kyuubi chakra into the infant Naruto.
    
    What if Hashirama used the second dojutsu on Madara in his fight against him at the Valley of the End?
    
    Essentially, this would possibly make Madara's physical body unstable, maybe even destroy it. What if one half of his soul was separated from his own body and somehow found itself in the body of another person? That person being a young innocent bystander that would group into the harsh and patriotic war hawk known as Danzo?
    
    Meanwhile, his original body is feeling the effects of instability due to the lack of balance in his chakra and seeks for a way to control it. Perhaps he would find it in Kirigakure and during a stint as the Mizukage, researches for ways to anchor himself to this world for a little longer. Perhaps his ability to phase through objects was never originally intentional and was merely a side-effect of being "incomplete".
    
    Recently, Madara already commented in how he felt disappointment that Nagato had used his resurrection jutsu on Konoha rather than him. This could imply that Madara is either now a disembodied spirit or just a mass of pure chakra.
    
    Furthermore, throughout the series, Madara as we know him has never really touched anything or anybody. With the case of when he was disguised as "Tobi" and was traveling with Deidara, it is possible that Madara just utilized Nagato's own remote control doppelganger clones that require a portion of the original's chakra in order for the original to control the doppelganger from a distance.

Danzo is actually the real Madara and Izuna, Madara's younger brother, is actually "Tobi/Madara" (or vice versa).

• • Madara, as it seems, likes to twist and contort the truth just so it would fit his goals. According to Itachi, Madara deliberately stole his brother's eyes out of greed and desperation. According to Madara himself, his brother had simply donated his eyes to him. According to the third official databook, his younger brother lived on after the extraction and even went on to fight in wars. The databook mentions that Izuna had even died in battle without his eyes.
    
    Essentially, this theory goes two different ways.
    
    If Danzo is Madara's brother, Izuna, then Izuna never really died and instead, he secretly infiltrated the Senju clan under his brother's orders and became a sleeper agent who worked in the inside to change Konoha from the inside and to infect the populace with his brother's ideals. Izuna would still of course take the Uchiha Massacre to his advantage just so that he could essentially "rebuild" himself. Meanwhile, Madara works outside the walls of Konoha, already moving on and plotting for bigger things than the Hokage title
    
    If Danzo is really Madara, then the outcome of the fight between Hashirama and himself was secretly covered up and Hashirama adopted Madara into his clan since the Uchiha clan had exiled him for the notions of revolution. Moved by this sense of compassion, Madara worked diligently along side the Senju clan under the assumed name of Danzo and disguised himself as such. Meanwhile, his brother, whom had never died. believes that Madara is dead and decides to call himself Madara in order to strike fear in the hearts of everyone around him and as a means of honoring his late brother. Izuna, in a rage, steals the Mangekyou Sharingan of one of his subordinates, but the result nearly destroys his body and the end result is him being somewhere closer to death, but still alive at the same time. This would attribute to his ability to phase objects through him and act like a ghost.

Now all that is left is an explanation on Madara's "Moon's Eye Plan" and whether or not Madara's goals and Danzo's goals intersect in the future.

The appearance of Zetsu at the meeting (apparently on Tobi's orders as well) is interesting. I would think that if Danzo and Madara are allies they would have liked him to become the leader of the alliance.
