When 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' was first being broadcast on TV, some 'difference of opinion' developed between GAINAX Studios and the major corporate sponsor that was funding the broadcast of the series, to such an extent that the corporate sponsorship was cut halfway through the showing of the series. This created immediate cash flow problems for GAINAX Studios, which resulted in the quality issues of the late series episodes, as well as the infamous episodes 25 and 26...
Incomplete Animatics used to time scenes were released for episode 25 as a part of the ADV Films 'Platinum' release for the series, with all of it's signficant scenes showing up in the 'End of Evangelion' movie. This is enough proof to show that the movies actually are the original intended ending for the series...
