Rei is a clone made from Genetic material from Lilith (The 2nd Angel), and Shinji's mom, Yui Ikari.

In a sense, she is.

this is one of my theories. and why Gendo not only sees her as a tool, i think its also the fact that its his Yui incarnated again...

Its not a Theory, thats what she is.

According to the Red Cross Book, Rei was made from salvaged remains of Yui after she merged with Unit 01.

In End of Evangelion, Gendo stated that Third Impact "Was the day for which she was created." (Although, not the way he particularly wanted)

The fact that she can generate a AT field means that she is an angel.

Ah, but the only difference with their Absolute Terror (AT) fields & a normal person's is that they know how to extend & "harden" their, turning it into the protective field we all know from the series.

Plus there's another side of the story it seems no-one's picked up on. If you've seen the movies (End Of EVA I think it's in), you'll know that the Angels are actually humans who apparently have rejected human form. And because of that, the 2 cannot live in harmony. So if you look at it from that angle (accidentally wrote angel there instead

), even if she was an Angel, she'd still be human. Just a little devil in the details...

But that's not what this topic's about. It's about whether she's still classified as human, or if she can actually be classified as an Angel. And I've got a thought about that too. She has red blood. All the Angels have blue blood (inbreed perhaps? Maybe that's why they "rejected" human form...

), though she has red. I'm pretty sure you see it a few times (first episode, when Shinji helps her up...), & each time it's red. They never pick up another blue blood target when she uses her AT field, only the field.

Not true. When Shinji escaped from inside Leliel, the angel was torn apart, and its blood was red.

When The dummy plug system on Unit 01 defeated Bardiel, (Unit 03), in one of the most gruesome sequences in the series, Unit 01 tears it to pieces. and before you say all the Eva units have red blood, when Zeruel defeated Unit 02 by cutting off its arms and head, Unit 02 had blue blood.

Yes, Unit-02 was the first EVA to have blue blood, however they went back to red for Unit 03, which became infected then reclassified an Angel. And while you do have a good point about the shadow Angel, didn't he go in the shadow in the ground, then out the sphere? Still, I think that was the only actual Angel with red blood, not considering Rei. I guess I did forget about that one. I stand corrected.

dammit, ive tried ti get my hands on an english copy of this....

and the angel's "blood type" is blue. i take this to mean its a specific genetic code similar to that of Adam.

and i dont remember EOE stating that angels where humans once....

I remember something about an evolution of humanity, with reagrds to the Angels. But, like so much in the series its all down to your own perception.

Going from memory, Misato says it to Shinji while they're driving to get to Unit-01, as they go past the failed EVA heads & spines. She says something like they are humans that rejected human form, & sadly we cannot co-exist.
