I cant say i like it..but i dont hate it either...like Hassun said noone is forceing you to play/watch them hentai games. But you got to admit...there are actually people who enjoy them... Everyone has a taste of there own.

I take a more unusual approach to these kinds of situations. There is one and ONLY one reason anyone has any interest in these games, and it is to portray characters which are loved by fans in a way reminiscent of soft-core porn.

With such a wide portrayal of the characters in various different perspectives, such as fanart, fanfiction, the anime, the manga, the dating simulator games, etc, just as Evangelion states: the existence of these characters is defined by others. In effect, the characters are alive, at least personality-wise, by the imaginations or memories of fans seeing them as living beings with souls, rather than animated cells with a borrowed voice.

That is what fanboys/fangirls are looking for with this stuff anyway, isn't it? Rather than some trailer trash teen who's willing to do anything on camera for ten dollars, having a character which you could empathize with (a being that you crave to exist in the real world) do that kind of stuff is far more rewarding.

To explain it in another way, which is more satisfying: seeing some no-name stripper who goes by various aliases at the local strip club, or seeing someone you have an emotional connection with, either at prom, or on some serious date, in a similarly compromising situation? The latter is obviously the one chosen, because, unlike the prior choice, the character or person you know putting themselves in a degrading position in which they are trusting you with quite literally ALL of them shows not only the "naughty bits" as Kensuke would say, but gives you the emotional satisfaction of knowing this person trusts you enough to get that close.

That is why these games are so popular. A cute face in a soft-core pose is not nearly as interesting as it being someone you know, who, through the format of the game or the image produced, can be imagined as giving this show only to you.

Now that THAT part of it has been dealt with, I cannot agree with that kind of content, based on the similar concept that the characters can be considered alive. For, if we assume Asuka, Hikari (you know there's some nasty content involving her, not only in some of this fanart, but also some pretty raunchy fanfiction), Maya, Misato, Rei, Ritsuko, etc, are alive in the minds of fans (by Berkeley's concept "to be is to be perceived"), then at least for the Children, THEY'RE 14 YEARS OLD!

I don't care if you're French or not, imagining 14 year old children as scantily clad, and participating in sexual acts is just WRONG. Given I have already argued how the characters can be seen as alive, if we take the cumulative information which we use to develop the personalities of these characters in our minds, making them real in our perception, can you HONESTLY see degrading such psychologically unstable, vulnerable, and for Rei's sake, easily manipulated characters as morally just?

The reason the truly honest, loyal fans of Evangelion enjoy the characters as well as root for them is the simple fact they can empathize with them, and WANT them to come out happy in the end. No matter how set in stone the story is, all of us truly wish for a "Mobile Suit Gundam" ending, where all the characters live happy, well-adjusted lives, and Pen-Pen adds the Haro-like comic relief.

dude, when it comes to men, we come to think that the characters on animes are really hot, and the second we think that someone thinks, hmmm lets make a hentai game. itll be really popular and ill be rich. yada yada yada. But the fact is that most men will go to it just for the fact that it IS their favorite show. anyways the fact of the matter is that men like tits, anime has unexposed tits, so we have nerds work on exposing those tits for all to enjoy for a fee.

I usually just avoid hentai and doujin in general.

At cons I always just ignore those booths.

Here's why:

The shows I watch/follow are not so epic as to have a bunch of randomly contrived adventures, so basically anything not in the show is not relevant, and not interesting to me. If a show is so complex that I would require more information, I go for canon stuff, thus I avoid doujin and the mire of sexual whatever may lurk in those plastic folders.

Plus, I have better things to do than watch/read anime porn. As someone who has constantly been at odds with the stereotype that all anime is porn anyway, I tend to not want to play into peoples' hands.

Though, I do indulge a sort of guilty pleasure at laughing at names of hentai.

I don't know. I know that a lot of my buddies spend money on that stuff, and it is none of my business, it just weirds me out when people bust that crap out in public, even if that public is just in the hotel lobby of a convention. It seems to be in sort of bad taste : \

I stick with this part of what you said and not much of the rest. Yeah i suppose a lot or all of what you said can really define why someone could like it, but this part is the most logical and seems to be the greatest motivation to me.

In most cases they are fans, in a few, people don't have to be a fan of any anime to enjoy a good pixel. They portray anime girls perfect and inticing like any. Theres no real difference enjoying hentai than there is enjying a fantasy with a persons favorite actress or actor. Well let me go back on that actually. It takes a little deeper and more meaning relationship to really enjoy a hentai game or anything that falls in that line.

A regular porn or game like it tends to make it more realistic and substitues a person to be with them. Anime and cartoons arn't real and never will be, so I guess it takes a little extra to really put yourself in that situation.

Still it doesn't really bother me or make me somehow lose interest knowing that those game are out there. Im not afraid to say I enjoyed playing a few myself. No different that fantasizing about Jessica Simpson after you have enjoyed her music or have a fantasy about Angelina Jolie after you seen Taking lives. Not much different I don't think.

Than again the bad drawings could be a little off putting xP
