How do you interpret the ending(EOE)?
I was just wondering how everyone out there interpreted the ending of the series(EOEG). I've been trying to decide on a good interpretation for nearly a year now, but I can't seem to get one good enough. I know that the show has alot to do with The Queballa, so I think that I need to eventually go pick one up.

well, for what i understood of the ending is that everyone was "freed" of the physical body, but at the end everyone had the choice to either stay in the afterlife or return to this world, Asuka was simply the first to come back, probably the first of many.

But I don't get why Shinji was choking her at the end. Was it just a huge release of something that he had been longing to do?

Re: How do you interpret the ending(EOEG)?
I'm honestly of the opinion that the director of the series had no real direction for the end of the show. End of Eva was, in part, to appease the fans. They felt cheated by the ending, so as a reaction, a new ending was written. It is fanservice, in one of the alternate definitions of the word. Fan service isn't just "OMG BOOBIES" but also things like giant explosions, or intense, mass-production eva gore.
"You want your ending? Here's your ending!"

Re: How do you interpret the ending(EOE)?
1st:well after countless hours back when i was in highschool wathcing it i picked this up.remeber adam and eve?which was refered often in the series along with lilith.well if you reme ber the said in the series that god first made adam and lilth but lilth did not get along with adam so well.so god took lilth away took a rib from adam and made eve.well if you think about shinji as adam, rei as eve and asuka as lilith.also if you remeber mankind was not able to go its next phase of evolution.so the angels came to take over and kill them all.you wonder why?
2nd:well if you think about it when in the garden of eden god first made adam and lilth.so if lilth was taken away maybe man kind would have been somthing else.
3rd:and lastly,if you read and understood what i wrote you will now see that.all of man kind was turned into that liquid.well the only people that were left were shinji and asuka or adam and lillth...MANS SECOND CHANCE AT HUMAN EVOLUTION!!!! the reason why shinji was trying to kill her until he figured it out and thus asuka sly remark to him. for not undersanding somthing else again
Re: How do you interpret the ending(EOE)?
I interpret it as the end of not only the physical world but our thoughts as well.
