Dogs have nnails to and in the series koga the wolf demon call inuyasha a mutt and you just dont call a cat a mutt. Hes brother turns into a gaint dog also hes dad was a dog demon lord also the cat demons even called him a dog.

This isn't even a proper discussion. The word "Inu" means dog. In the Spanish dub of this anime, its called Perro-yasha. "Perro" means dog as well.

I think that the dog demon persona works best in the anime and the only other animal I think would be able to compete at all would be if they were fox demons or something similar to that but then again I think Shippo would need to be something else or it would be kind of awkward.

I have an hypothesis other than the one the show has for its viewers. I think that Inuyasha is a cross-bread of a cat and a dog. He's got cat ears, but doesn't have a tail which is weird for a cat. He obeys simple commands that a dog would normally obey, so his animal instincts are of a dog. In few words, not matter what race the dude, he is a freak of nature that must be eliminated for the sake of human beings.

really 2 me him being a dog is what made me want to watch it but thats cuz i love dogs. maybe after watching more episode the story line its self grew on me. but when i think about it him being a dog brought more things in it. if he was like half horse it would but kinda weird when he went in demon form & so would hi brother. lol

We had a cat without a tail once. And as far as simple commands go... my cat can do anything a dog does, and I didn't even have to train her. She even shocked when she started playing fetch. We haven't had a dog since I was about 6, so I have no idea how she learned to do it.

So he doesn't have to be part dog.
