Actually, Robotech and Astro Boy started it all. Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z might have started it all for your generation, but Robotech and Astro Boy began the popularization of anime in the United States.

And "American Sailor Moon"? There's no such thing. There's only the English dub of Sailor Moon and that's pretty much it, which was a terrible dub in the first place. I mean, they turned Zoicite into a girl which might be understandable because they didn't want to expose homosexuality to children, but it sure is funny how many changes they made to Sailor Moon.

Anyway, as for the subject of true American "anime".. Americans have every right of making their own "anime". Anime is art and art is a freedom of expression. There are several Western anime out there in the mainstream. There's Code Lyoko, Totally Spies, and Martin Mystery from France. There's Xiaolin Showdown, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Kappa Mikey. There's Teen Titans and Ben 10. There's also IGPX that was co-developed by both Cartoon Network and Production I.G, a joint project between Americans and Japanese.

Heh, in the end of it all, these "American anime" are animated in Korea. Funny.
    I love my girlfriend.
