New Line Cinema is also making a film based on the 'Monster' series.
But Hollywood also has a fun habit of ruining anything they touch with their remakes.

According to this ICv2 news posting, Warner Brothers has acquired the US production rights for a live action 'Ninja Scroll' movie, and it's now in preproduction...
ICv2 - 'Ninja Scroll' Movie Deal
Now is this part of the trend of Hollywood simply running out of ideas and adapting stories from other cultures, or could this be something new and different???
Edit: The Hollywood gossip rag Variety confirms this story...

Well, they've already done 'Speed Racer', with the live action 'Dragon Ball' due next summer, along with the CGI 'Astro Boy' Movie... Though these aren't the only features that are based on Japanese Media. 'The Ring' was originally based on the Japanese films 'Ringu'. There is also a American version of the 'Death Note' movie in the works as well... Disney has been accused of plagiarizing Anime series for their Animation feature films 'Atlantis' (from 'Nadia, the Secret of Blue Water') and 'The Lion King' (from 'Kimba, the White Lion').
All said and done I think they're awfully late to the table. Not that I'm complaining of course. As Sazuka already eloquently pointed out, the failure rate of Hollywood remakes is cataclysmically high. Especially with Asian films.
