    And thats not all, there's

    Freezia (Japanese pronunciation of Freezer)
Nappa (The name of the vegetable known in the US as Chinese Cabbage)
Gohan (Japanese word for 'rice' or 'food')
Commander Ginyu of the Ginyu Force (Ginyu is the Japanese word for 'Milk')
Emperor Pilaf (named after Turkish meat and rice dish...)
Piccolo (as the small flute musical instrument...)

Though some names didn't survive the English dub translations...

Bulma (original Japanese is Bluma, which is the Japanese pronunciation for 'Bloomers', and as the rest of the pun goes, is the daughter of Dr Briefs and has boy named Trunks, and in the original Japanese, a daughter name Bra...)

TO LenMiyata Yeah same thing with Goku and Vegeta. vegeta's names is a pun on vegetables as Kakarot is carrot and all that. its kinda funny lol so wut they gonna do, fry some vegetables and carrots in the carrots grandaughter? a "PAN" ??? LMAO I'm sorry lol

TO cantsenditback Ya damn skippy its the best Anime in the world! I don't think anything can be as great as DBZ. the games, the anime, manga, the TOYS! DBZ as Sailor Moon and Pokemon as their runningmates made Anime what it is in the US!

    I believe…whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you…stranger.

Though in reality, 'Son Goku' is not a pun, but a reference to the Chinese mythological tales of 'Journey to the West'/'Legend of the Monkey King'/'Saiyuki', which is the story of a Chinese Buddhist Monk, who after serious arguments about what are in the religious text, takes upon himself to journey to India, to retrieve an original copy of the Buddhist scriptures. Son Goku is the monkey king character, (notice that in Dragon Ball he starts out with a tail) and he has a staff that can expand at will. But in the original Dragon Ball, instead of a Buddhist monk questing for the Buddhist Scriptures, we have Bulma questing for the Legendary Dragon Balls. Other Anime series that reference the same legends are 'Saiyuki', (which has both a 'Son Goku' character and the staff), and the R.O.D. OVA (which features the battling Buddhist monk Genjo Sanzo, and the staff)

Which is how it was introduced in Japan. We introduced bread to Japan and with it, its name.
