Funny thing about that too. I actually went back to Animerica once after two years with NewType. It wasn't until I went home that I saw on their cover that it was their last issue. It's too bad. Funny thing too, for the longest time animerica's website was mistaken for a japanese porno site.

    Re: Anime Publications

Well at least i am not the only one that read Animerica.Animerica was the first anime mag i started to read around 99 after a friend got me in to it.But once NewTypeUSA came out Animerica started to sux after awhile so slowly branched out to others like Anime Insider and one more that i can't remember. After a while i gave up on mags basiclly.

But i will say NewType was a good mag and expensive too compared to the other out.Tho they did give allot of goodys in it and was a plus when you got it.Not really sad to see it go cause i never really got in to it.

I don't subscribe but I have always found Anime Insider to be a great mag.

It's articles usually to me where just as good if not better then Newtype and it did not charge an arm and a leg.

Mainly though I just don't subscribe because over-all I generally get my info from the net. It's great that there are magazines out there but with as many online people watching the anime world (even just in forums) it always seemed like a waste of money to me.

    Re: Anime Publications

I have the first years worth of magazines from Newtype USA when it first came on the market, and I just lost interest, since a lot of the anime that were featured in it weren't ones that I wanted to watch (The ones being endorsed by ADV), and the ones that I did want to watch were not licensed by ADV so they didn't really appear in the magazine.

I honestly won't be shedding a tear when Newtype USA goes.

    Re: Anime Publications

I used to get NewtypeUSA, it was a good magazine but I really liked it for its centerfold posters and DVD sampler. I have a stack of them next to my PC right now. Anywho, the subscription is outrageously expensive. Some inside into I learned is that ADV didn't want to pay Kodakawa licensing fees anymore and decided to break out into doing their own magazine. Whether this will have the same content or not remains to be seen. I do hope that they still release the sampler DVDs and have the centerfold posters at least. I think fans of the old NewtypeUSA would be sorely disappointed if those were left out and lets hope that ADV realizes this.

    Re: Anime Publications

If all you want is posters: buy the Japanese edition of NEWTYPE. The coverage is more even-handed, the price is far more reasonable (even AFTER the importing fee, no DVD). Same posters... only for series that aren't necesarily liscenced in the US yet (or distributed by ADV).

Most of the "visual" Anime magazines are just advertisments anyway. It seems ridiculous to pay more than $10 for one under any circumstances.

I can print out images I find online. I'm replacing my inkjet with a color laser soon. Much better print quality. Anyway, you can get imported magazines through most comic book stores and via the Previews magazine. So, if those do disappear from ADV's new magazine I won't loose out, but I'll miss the DVD sampler but I think ADV did those themselves and probably will continue to release them since they were such a huge selling point for Newtype USA.

    Re: Anime Publications

I dont know if anyone had the chance of seeing it stores yet but apparently someplace known as "DMP" has started the publication of "Megami DX" magazi...ugh mook. Apparently they refer to it as a "mook" (magazine-book...no, seriously. It says so on the back cover)

    Its a full color pin-up book of anime characters...all of them girls. (>//w//<) Something for all the male otakus in the US to look into. To add they claim all issues will have a super long, two sided pull-out poster. For $20 some may say its a deal and some may say "ummm....". Its up to personal preferences and interests. ^^;

    Featured in their first issue:
    -Ah! My Goddess
    -AIR (TV)
    -Comic Party Revolution
    -Full Metal Panic! Second Raid
    -Galaxy Angel
    -Kamichu!
    -My-HiME
    -Negima!
    -Strawberry Marshmallow
    -Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
    -Tsukiyomi -MOONPHASE-

-...and MORE!! Total of 77 full color illustrations

...just thought that some ppl would like to know. (I'd love to share scans only if I can get my hands on a second copy of it. Xd )
