kanon 2006 is a pretty good one to watch, as long as you are into shoujo stuff. Another good anime show is welcome to the NHK.

This list gets long, but go with one of these. Fumoffu is probably most enjoyable.
I recommend "Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge" a.k.a "Perfect Girl Evolution" eventhough it's still new anime. Or you can watch "School Rumble", "Ouran High School Host Club"

xxxHOLiC: About a kid named Watanuki and a witch who lives in a store granting wishes (yeah sounds weird doesnt't it^^)
Bleach: Action packed and about spirits and stuff
Ghost in the Shell: Hard to follow but rewarding, its kinda sci-fi and makes you look at the nature of humans and how technology has advanced so much it takes over peoples lives.
