The Anime GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka, which even MegaTokyo make reference too) is based on the second half of a long running manga series, where a street tough biker gang member (which is covered in the first half of the series) reforms himself, and becomes a high school teacher (to a class of punks, naturally...)

As a matter of historical trivia, the Live-Action GTO TV series (based on the same manga series) became the highest rated program in the history of Japanese Television...

GTO is a very good anime and manga, it's about a teacher (the title stands for Great Teacher Onizuka) who's very different from most teachers, especially those in Japan.
He's a good guy though and he helps his students in ways they didn't think it was possible.

Good info Lenn i might have to look up the live version aswell, btw it sounds like Onizuka's voice actor is also the same as Spike from cowboy bebop

GTO is pretty good, the only "iffy" thing about it is that he reminds me a lil about eminem :-| but Onizuka is cooler
