Dark anime
i was wonderig if there are more as i call them "dark" anime's out there
like deathnote and code geass
where the main character isnt a goody to shoe's and the whole anime
has a rather dark and sinister mood to it
like light he is truely evil and manipulative and wouldnt hesitate
to kill anyone without a reason
the same goes for Lelouch
so i was wondering if there are more anime's out there with a style like this

Re: Dark anime's
Vampire Princess Miyu and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni are the only thing I can think of off the top of my head... I'll get back to you if I think of more though. Higurashi really varies though, it's like that at times though.
elfen lied.... one of the main characters is pretty merciless.
Gankutsuoh later on has a character that's what you're lookin for (once again not the main character though, sorry)
Akira

Re: Dark anime's
Gokudo is very much what you're looking for lol, totally forgot about that one... it's a comedy though too, so it might not be what you're thinking of exactly... but it's still awesome.
Gankutsuoh's character may be pretty merciless at times, but the character is kind of back and forth and his killing is a lot more calculated and sparce.
Monster has a character(s?) that may be what you're looking for as well, but the character in question remains largely out of sight as the main character is usually going after him. I haven't finished this series as I haven't had the room on my disks for it, but what I watched I really liked.

Re: Dark anime's
Grumble Grumble Grumble
Then there are series which have a professional assassin as the main character (ever hear of a 'good' assassin???) such as 'Noir', and 'Madlax', both of them are 'Girls with Guns' genre series but have exceptional (if slow and insidious) story lines. Theres also 'Gungrave' where a Mafia hit man is brought back from the dead as a 'Frankensteins' type monster...
You also have your 'Cyberpunk' genre series (e.g. 'Boogie Pop Phantom', 'Texhnolyze', and 'Ergo Proxy') where none of the charaters presented are really likable or good.
