    First Mecha anime?

    Hey, what was the first mecha anime? I heard once that it was Evangelion but I'm not sure if that's right.

    There is no way it was Evangelion. :PI'm going to say Gigantor (Tetsujin 28-Go) wins as first mecha series.

    Now no doubt there are preexisting 'Giant Robot' series, (e.g. Tetsugin-28 is a 'Giant Robot' series...), the series that established 'Mecha' as its own separate 'genre' would be 'Mobile Suit Gundam' which originally aired back in 1979. The series itself was canceled prematurely, but very much like the success of 'Star Trek', popularity soared during reruns of the series...
