If it's a good Anime, a Master Piece like Elfen Lied. They only make one season.
When it's something bad, and messy like Dragon Ball Z or Naurutio they can't stop making new Episodes.
Why is that?

Ah-ha, You have noticed one of the significant differences between Anime series shown in the post-midnight time slots (1:30AM - 3:30 AM), and series shown in the 'Golden Time' (Family Hour Evening Prime Time) ... Take a guess on what the difference is in the viewer audience ratings and the advertising revenue... Another difference is that 'Elfin Lied' was made by a Anime studio that is better known for its Hentai Anime productions...
Elfen Lied had an ending that's something that most anime lovers want for their favourite shows some closure. And by the way you might not like Dragonball and Naruto but alot of kids do and it brings in alot of money for their studios so why should they stop.
Hmmm that is true... i agree what wishicouldlivemore said.... :p
Plus... if you watch too much out of something the suprises will be gone because the writer can't think of something new.. for instance... spoilers... long animes has long long stupid spoilers... and when they have an idea... they will make a new series depending on the ideas they have and try to expand it :D: but to me... the long animes are great..
Bleach, Naruto, Dragon Ball... heck.. i can watch them many times over and over again :) and to me... each anime has it's specialty.. :D it is still a masterpiece to me as long as they are interesting and entertaining ... :)
Each anime has it's ups and downs. I personally watched Elfen Lied, and when I did... man did I ever want to see the ending to that one. It had its moments of greatness. Now being a ninja fan, Naruto has elements that I do like, and do not like. But, there are those that have thier flaws. In the end, it comes down to money, like some of you have already said. If enough people latch onto a series and spend thier hard earned money on the stuff from that series... then the writers and artists that made it did thier job.
Haha, Naruto got old after the first 220 episodes or whatever, but i just keep watching it because when im bored i obviously need something to do.
Not ALL animes get bad after the first season though. but if the anime has alot of fillers, it does get kind of boring, and then when the episode is done...it just seems like it was a waste of time.
Keeping a series short and concise leaves a lot less room for getting dragged out and becoming annoying or making mistakes like long series.
