Thread: Help identifying old anime ??

Yo guys,
could someone pleaaase help with this it's highly nostalgic to me and I'm not quite sure how to pin this old cartoon down...

* It used to air on a channel called "America Plus" back during the 90's.
* I remember it had some sorts of alien villains.
* I think it might be "Robotech" as some images are very reminiscent. The transformers and robots and pilots in them...
* the atmosphere was very sorrowful I remember.

* The aliens/vilains during some scene hear music (out of like some radio or somethin...) for the first time and are completely astounded by it.
