I have heard that Zac Efron will play the part of Light. I pray to God that is
not true. They even have a petition for it online to not cast Zac Efron as
Light Yagami. I believe the story is that Zac Efron likes Death Note and
wants to play the part of Light.
Grumble Grumble Grumble
According to the Variety web article, the planned WB movie will cover the 25% of the Manga story...
Warner brings 'Death' to bigscreen - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - VarietyThe 13-volume manga is a bestseller in Japan, and the film will be drawn from the first three installments, written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata for Shueisha Inc.

If thats the case it wont be much of a story...-__- Unless they plan to follow it up with a sequel...
But even if they do go through with all this it probably wont come out till about 2011-2012...Maybe.
And Zac Efron? as Light?
Makes me wonder who will be a possible L.
"You think you know me...? You have no idea."
YEAH! AGREED! Zac Efron isn't dark, evil and creepy? at all[They have opposite attitudes so if they gonna choose him it would be an entire sucks] (no offense to zac efron fans)I would definitely not watch the movie if he's gonna play light
He would destroy the movie, he's not all dark and stuff like light (no offense to zac efron fans)
and For the role of L I think they would choose the right person to fit in for L..
Who will fit in the role of Misa?
I loved her so much.... i would dare to risk my own life only to save her from dying....
I loved my GF...
I think speed racers success bombed because of the way they tried to shoot the movie. It was more of a cartoonish look than realistic.
Plus it is Speed racer.
Don't forget about Transformers.. A hit!!
Death Note I think can turn out to be a good movie. The storyline is very good. Just as long as they don't make it like Speed Racer.
The only real concerns is how they are going to remake the Shinigami. I do not want them to look like David Bowie in "The Labrinyth."
The only other big concern I have the character "L." His character in Death note was so awesome. To find someone just as good to play a real live version of him, and still make it good will be hard.
"Dear Warner Brother's Studio. Please don't mess this up!"
I'm quite sure the adaptation would turn out as a failure! Americans can't give " death note " justice, like what happened to other adaptations. They would definitely destroy the whole thing. They should stop making manga adaptations. Japanese are the only one, i believe could do it right!
