Thread: Horror animes

This really depends on what you mean by 'Horror' series. Most of the Anime series that are available, such as the series you're watching, 'Higurashi no Naku Koroni' (a.k.a. 'When they Cry') have to meet Japanese TV broadcast standards, and are limited in the amount of sex, blood and gore that they are allowed to show. The only anime features that can get around these standards are series that were limited to premium satellite/cable broadcasts (e.g. 'Elfin Lied' and 'Gantz'), OVA releases ('Hellsing Ultimate') or movie features ('Blood the Last Vampire', and 'Vampire Hunter D Blood lust')...

The other thing to keep in mind, is that even though the dark violent Anime features are highly popular in the west, in Japan there considered niche production features that are well outside the demand of the Otaku mainstream. The actual trend right now is for those cute moe light comedy series that have limited popularity in the west...

Try out "Le Portrait de Petit Cossette". You might like that one.
