Some openings and endings are worth the time to listen to, though for the most part they suck nonetheless.
Its depends on the show for me. If the opening and closing credit are good i will listen to them for some time other that that i just skip it and watch the show

there really is little impact on the anime itself, but for me, i take it as a push. if i like the band's song, i'll download that song, and look up others. that;s how i got into Maximum the Hormone, because of their songs on Death Note.
Why hello there!
I don't think the effect is noticed. Many times for the opening/ending determines how memorable the show is.
I make black history everyday. I don't need a month
i find that it sticks with you... even when you aren't watching it, sometimes i'll hear the song somewhere else and immediatly relate back to the anime.....lol believe it or not it makes a good marketing tool to have a solid opening and closing theme to anything not just anime. but besides the opening the trailer has to have the music and usually its the same as the opening which will draw you to watch it!
for me, i think it has a big impact in making the anime your fave or not...coz i think you can remember an anime just by listening to its opening themes or ending themes...XD....& also i'm a music lover..maybe that's why..XD...then again...the story is pretty much important to everyone...XD
I find them to be a very important aspect of the show. I mean the opening is what draws you into a show in the first place. There have been shows I was nearly turned away from due to the opening and ending theme songs. Though I know you should judge a show by that.
All in all, I think it is very important...and also another thing is that some of my favorite Japanese bands I found because they did an opening or ending to an anime show ^^
