i think it is important that an anime has a good opening and closing. the opening is important for it draws you in and makes you want to watch. the ending is imporant because it gives you something to look forward to at the end. But i dont think that it can make or break the series.

Simple, first people watchin animes will see it first before the anime itself, when the opening theme is lonely people will think it is a sad story or romance and when it is fast people will be curious to watch it. (Note: Anime music must be blend with anime it self if an action or sci-fi anime posses an opening that is slow or lonely, people will be tired of watching it.)

Well, they don't really matter to me, since I skip the opening and ending songs, but It's a great thing when an anime has a good opening or ending, cuz that's what gets you in "the mood'

I think certain animes that arent as exciting and some what slow paced need to have a good opening, good ending and in general a good sound track. The best example i can think of is Dot Hack the anime it self is good but what really made it great for me was the sound track and opening.

well for me i don't care about ending cuz i dun even bother to hear them.. most of them have a very sad soothing music to them...
as for the opening songs... well... if only affects me positively... if its nice it'll increase my interest for the anime.. some songs even MAKE me watch the anime even though the anime sucks... like watching it just to listen to the opening songs..
if the opening sucks.. i'll just skip it..

but like wad most people notice... the better anime series(s) almost always grab the best songs out there...

I guess the percentage is lower than just almost .. i mean there a lot of good animes with the worst OPs and EDs ever! like Trigun ...

Most of the time I just skip the opening and ending. Unless it's from Gintama, I really can't say no. I like almost all the songs from there.
