Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
I watched an episode of the tv series and about 6 minutes of the OVA before I reached head-explosion level. It's pretty easy to say that Kodomo Jikan is the creepiest thing I've ever seen and makes the best case for outlawing lolicon/shotacon due to the growing mainstream acceptance and skewed perception among grown male otaku.
Porn is one thing... having a regular "comedy" devoted to sexualizing EXTREMELY young girls is walking the line.
An adult student being sexually attracted to his elementary school students isn't funny... it's ****ed up. Maybe it bothers me more AS an elementary school teacher, but every time I see a guy buying Kodomo Jikan goods, I do a full profile scan and make a mental note to kick the **** out of him if he gets within 20 feet of any of my schools.
Incidentally... one of my best IRL friends wrote a column that brought such attention to this series that the manga's US release was cancelled entirely. He's mentioned in its wikipedia entry and still considers it a badge of honor, not a stigma (though lolicon everywhere now hate his guts).
I'm not for things like this being outlawed... but I seriously question the responsibility of making them at all (companies should know better!)
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
I'm taking it that you have seen other loli/shota anime/manga before, and to say this one is the creepiest thing you've ever seen much count for a LOT. I've only seen it in the uncensored version - I do get more then enough from the manga.
Question. why did you first watch it if you're an elementary teacher? o.o
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
I've seen the OVA and the TV series and I've had the opportunity to read the first volume of the manga. In my opinion...well, I was surprised that such a theme was accepted as a generel anime and not a 18+ anime. Seriously, a 3rd Grader has the hots for her teacher ("hots" is taking it down a few notches...the things she says and tries to do to her teacher in the anime... (._.) Most of her conversation is censored) Its seriously taking things to a new level. Although typically in the end of the seires Kokonoe decides to take things down a few notches (supposively) its still...
Its just a dangerous theme/story.--;
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
The censorship amused me greatly. At times Kokonoe (and the others sadly) could go on for whole sentences and all you would hear is "quack, quack, vrrroooom, sqeee" and others.
>_> I agree that "hots" is incredibly toned down, but it is good that the teach has been doing his best to avoid/divert her. Props to him!
Despite the theme, i personally love the manga story and how they changed it just enough for an anime, plus all the characters are some of the better ones i've seen.
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
How would you feel about it if the teacher was a priest and the little moe girls were little boys? I'm pretty sure, in that case, everyone would be jumping on the "that's sick" bandwagon.
...seems to be a double-standard for moe-fans on what constitutes "creepy".
It's CREEPY because the kids who are chasing the teacher for sex are far to young to be thinking about it at all. These kids haven't even lost their baby-teeth yet! They aren't realistic portrayals of children-- and they aren't acceptable roles for children (or an adult) to be in. Kodomo no Jikan has managed to make skanky behavior in elementary schoolers "cute" and sexual desire for them "their fault".
That's pretty ****ed right there.
Maybe if you ever have children of your own, you'll understand the backlash against this series.
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
I've never read the manga, nor have I seen the anime. I've heard both good and bad things about it and reading this thread kind of gives me a biased opinion, but here I go:
I'm not one to go out and by loli/shota related material. I've stumbled across it a few times on the 'net but that's about it. I'd have to agree with Tsurara on this topic. I don't think that the company who produced said anime/manga was thinking responsibly. Those are the types of books you'd find in 'adult entertainment' shops here in the US. The fact that it's easy to purchase in Japan (with no age restriction) is suprising to me, regardless of how popular loli/shota may be.
Most loli/shota is about the adult having a desire (sexually) for their younger counterpart. This one has to be the FIRST that I've heard of where it's the other way around. That's BAD! No child--I don't give a damn what anyone says--should be thinking of having sex! No child in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL should even consider theirselves as having 'The Hots' for a teacher or any adult for that matter. Yeah, there comes a time where the child will grow in to an age where he/she likes boys/girls and thinks about sex from time to time (due to raging hormones). But, I've never heard of a kid in primary school think that way. So, writing about it is just ludacrous to me.
I wouldn't purchase it and I wouldn't encourage it. I don't think that loli/shota should be outlawed (they're doin' a decent job of keepin' the creeps out of our kids--if ya catch my drift), but I don't think that the topic at hand should become any more extreme either.
This should totally be a debate. (Just my opinion)
Re: Kodomo No Jikan (2007)
>_> Sadly there was/is a debate, or something close to it. Besides i do got a child, twins actually. They don't live with me, and i kinda agree on that. I'm no where near responsible enough for that, though i still see them from time to time.
Returning to the anime, i find it only as an entertainment object, nothing that relates to human - whether child or not - and as an entertainment item it wa really good, it served its purpose very well. I could never see anything drawn as a real 3rd grader, though in the reality of the show i could and in that reality the 3rd grader was more "adult" then the adult *shrug*
Just not taking it seriously is probably the biggest line in our perspectives.
