ultimately I believe most people are going to think that the ultimate series should be the one they prefer the most and that nanosecond in time. In the ways of which was the first anime then it goes to speed racer, unless you mean which is the first most recent which would be either sailor moon, dragon ball z, or inuyasha which have all been running since the early 90's. personally I think the title should go to the one anime that has spurred the most attraction to the world of anime which personally for the action side of anime it was definetly dragonball z, for girls in general it would be sailor moon, and for humor/ romance it would most likely be inuyasha, neither of these hold great preference with me but as a viewer of anime I can see the changes they made in the anime world, it truly depends on your personal intrests as to which you believe is the best.

I just know I wouldn't want something like "Sex in the City" to stand as the pinnacle of what my nation can accomplish media-wise.

i'm 19 and i can't name those three Dragon Ball characters you're talking about!!! ... and i'm to say Dorawmon as well because it's really well known and everyone know it even if only by the look of himself in the series without a name ... and i've got to say Cowboy Bebop because it's very largely known or so i know ...

I would say there isn't ONE legendary anime.
It would be more like several animes.

Someone would name this "Legendary Anime" ... Many would agree... And many still would disagree...
It's in the eye of the beholder.

Some anime series paved the way for the great stuff we have now... Even though they may be super old and campy... they caught on, and for the time it was amazing... Look at 'Astroboy'... Very influential as far as America is concerned. I wouldn't say it's the ONE legendary anime, but it was one of the shows that set the stage for future anime in America. ^_^

The STARS series of Sailor Monn was a Japan only release so not as much of it was shown in America. So what I'm saying is I want to know what your opinion is on what is THE legendary anime, you can chose others besides these two. Remember there can only be one!(lightning strikes)

To Billum256 I agree with both u and ur girlfriend that Sailor Moon & DBZ are like the most legendary Animes oout there, and that the title won't be taken from them in the near future.

To animemeg I agree with you that they're should be more than one Anime that can have the title, I mean why not brah? lol
