I thought Aquarion was really good.. ending was a touch sad.. but i did think the characters grew physically but mostly emotionally.

the ending was very sad. I just love sad and happy endings. but sad endings i love the most cause it brings the emotion out of me.

Personally, I can recommend Rurouni Kenshin, Basilisk, InuYasha, Elfen Lied, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (there IS a difference between it and the regular Fullmetal Alchemist lol), YuYu Hakusho, Chrono Crusade, Witch Hunter Robin... There's several that I've seen with character growth right there.

I know that I'm probably adding things that others have suggested, so I apologize for that. Good luck with your search for entertaining anime!

Mobile fighter G Gundam is one of the best anime ever! And all the characters grow a lot both emotionally and in skill. I do not know if you like the gundam anime much but this truly is a grate series and I know a lot of people that do not like the gundam shows at all and they love this show.
    I hope this helps
