Re: Modern anime or old fashioned anime

for me i like both depending on what show is given....

the oldies were the one that made anime what it is and most of them are benchmarks that are yet to be matched....the newer ones made innovations and keeps the bucks coming in...

as for comparison i think the oldies had the upper hand in the story department, they were quite aimed for brilliance rather than something aimed just to haul cash....the art department there was okay too, like i said in another thread hey its the 70s and 80s, the old school drawings that we know today were the "in" thing back then...a few years from now and these beautifully drawn animes of today will certainly be just a thing of the past and definitely be dubbed old-school and primitive like those of the oldies of today....problem is, old school isn't too accessible and appreciated nowadays..trying to watch one will be next to nothing if you're looking for a rare one....

i'd give props to the new school shows because they keep and attreact fans to be glued on anime..it's quite full of bad feedbacks from fans, but i guess the fans have also raised their standards...tv sets and tv shows have evolved and so do the expectations and standards of the fans.....

Re: Modern anime or old fashioned anime

I'm more of a modernist but I like some of the older anime and manga too. But what will draw me to it is if the anime/manga has a reputation or if its new on the scene. I won't go for the new new stuff.

Our love will go on until the end of time. I will always be yours and you will be mine.

I'm on the fence with this.
I love the look of the modern anime... It's so sharp and crisp!
At the same time, the "old fashioned" anime paved the way for the new stuff.
I also agree that it depends on the actual anime itself. ^_^

Exclamation Do you think that anime has lost its luster since the switch to computer animation?

I mentioned in a reply in another thread that i think anime isnt quite as impressive now as it was when it was all hand drawn. Do you think this is true? why and name a few examples of your favorites from each generation.
Myself, for the old school: Galaxy Express 999, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the Northstar, Transformers (movie)
new school: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, FLCL
this may offend some but please defend your position

I think they still look ok. I can really tell when it is done on the computer, but it doesn't look bad to me.

It really depends on what you look for an anime, whether you are more of a storyline guy or a graphics kind of person. However, you might have a point. Computer could make the graphics side a lot easier, meaning often times the storyline writers might have to halfass things to catch up.

EDIT: This is a very very good topic btw. Original stuff.
