Bubble Gum Crisis is a old school anime but don't blame it to be old since there is a lot of them that are really good.

if you want to watch new anime then i would recommend gilgamesh, it's got some scientific stuff going on but is clearly explained in the subtitle. if you want funny anime then i do recommend genshiken. it tackles issues that otakus are familiar with plus it's funny and only a few episodes long

I know a pretty good anime called lucy lied.
It actually has a little nudity but not like in between the legs or anything.
The storyline is really good though but theres a lot of blood and cussing.

Banner of the stars 1, 2 and 3(just came out, only 3 episodes i think)

Starship operator
Air gear
Desert punk (funny show, ummbad language and adult humor if you dont mind that)

Golden boy (classic show, only 6 episodes long but i almost guarantee you will find it funny.)

Try something different, like Honey & Clover or Beck. Little violence, if at all, but those should make for great viewing if "artsy and sensible" is what you mean by "mature".
