    Re: original or pirated?

if yer' collectin' as in stamp/toy/etc collectin....then the originals are always best....

i don't consider myself as a real collector of anime vids but i do get my daily dose from all those three sources: legal, bootleg, DL....i only have a few original anime vids and i get them from foreign sources, most of my anime vids are either bootleg or downloaded(illegaly)...they're, illegal yes and i am open to criticisms and won't complain and even defend myself.....

I think the most important thing that we should remember when buying anime is "How does buying a bootleg affect the anime company?" If a company went under for low DVD sales due to everyone watching it online or buying bootlegs and a series was canceled, isn't it our fault? Eventually the creators are going to be affected by bootleggers. I know I wouldn't want to be held responsible for a series getting canceled. They put alot of time and effort into making this for the viewers. Its only right that they should get something for it.

    Re: original or pirated?

i think it would be great to be able to buy original anime but it's very expensive and i just can't afford it... buying pirates i know the quality is very poor and i will regret spending money for something that i can get it "free" from internet with the same or better quality, i know it's illegal but it's that's the only way to see anime that i can't watch on the tv
Fate is unfair with the pure ones...

If you live in a WTO country then they have to respect international copyright laws, if you don't live in a WTO country if the anime is being sold in stores there then it has been copyrighted in that country (companies don't make that kind of mistake).

Eitherway, I don't buy into the "they cost so much" BS wait till a series comes out as a box set and buy it then...most of the time you can get the series for 40-70 bucks, average 7 DVDs per series and your looking 5-10 bucks a disk. Get a second job or gasp save your money. It isn't that hard.

Buy or downloading illegal copies really hurts the companies that make them & distribute them and will lead to "good" companies going out of "that" business. Take Geneon USA, they no longer distribute anime in the US, now some great series we were expecting are left up in the air and we might not get them at all. Why? Pirates hurt their sales to the point it wasn't worth being in it to them.

Think about it, if your a "real" fan then BUY your stuff.

    Re: original or pirated?

I don't really care that much whether is pirated or original. Its the same content either way. However, sometimes i buy licensed shows because most of the time they come with extras and interviews with the shows' animators, creators etc.
