Otaku - when do you cross the line?

What are some general requirements towards being considered an Otaku in your opinion? When does a person cross the line from healthy like of anime to absolute obsession?

Hmmm, I'm wondering if this wouldn't be better suited for the Japanese Culture forum.
I'll just leave it here for the time being.

On the topic at hand: A good indicator of an addiction is when a person starts to neglect the basic human needs like eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. in order to maintain his 'hobby'.

Agreed...You are taking it to far when your personal life, work life, school life, physical health are all becoming secondary.....

Well, seeing as I'm already well passed obsessed, I would not know the answer. But I must say, it has been the best obsession I have ever had.

one becomes like that when main needs become secondary (as Hassun and animemeg mentioned above)... and when you can't have enough of anime ... you just want more (that my case at the very least) ...

i think maybe you could say that you give things up to watch anime, like friends, ect. again, like others have said before me. think of it like a drug addictin, the symptoms are probsably the same or similar.

Re: Otaku - when do you cross the line?

I think it is an obession when you neglect to watch shows that aren't anime. I haven't gone that far, but i think if the anime network was availible to me, that would be what I'd watch all day long. There are lots of great movies and TV that have nothing to do with anime, if you don't mind horror and action genres. I also like watching Beauty and the Geek. I also like ANTM, but I have'nt seen it in awhile because I don't get locals where I live, and my mom likes Pushing Daises.
