Thread: is an OVA an OVA if it is a sequel?

Actually, its quite common for a Anime Series to have a couple of non-broadcast episodes in the DVD release, as a 'incentive' to purchase the product. And the production of post-series OVA episodes is relatively 'cheap', as the character designs, personalities, and voice actors matching have already been done...

And if the series sells well on DVD release, (but has issues with a 2nd season, such as the common anime production sin of catching up with the manga series its based on...) its also common to see a OVA episode release just to milk a little extra cash out of the studio's investments...
