After just finishing "Paprika", I'm more convinced than ever that Satoshi Kon is one of the very few real visionaries working in the medium. While films like AKIRA opened our eyes to the genre we love: the credit for AKIRA's insanity belongs almost entirely to the manga's original author. Kon's insanity is his own... and ours. The collaborators he chooses to work with are no less brilliant or consistant in quality.
The less inspired I am by the progression of Studio Ghibli, the more relieved I am after watching a Kon creation. The future of anime cinema is safe: for now.
Agree with me? Love him? Hate him? Why?
