I see that everyone keeps bring up different kinds of dark anime, but may I suggest Shuffle!, because it is an harem anime that is a little dark then others and will surprise you when you watch it, maybe Rahxephon because it has a little dark feel (even through it is bright visually) to it and a water down version of what NGE, or even Blue Gender because it combines aliens with the feel of no escaping the madness involved in the series. does this help?
i dont really watch anime too much but my sister is really into bleach so mabey you should try that :smile:

hhmm another anime I'd personally suggest is Vampire Hunter D. it is an interesting anime that you might like.
Hell Girl is a pretty good one if you're into the darker material.
flcl is one of my favrite anime well that and ranma 1/2 those are some good anime
