No Dragon Ball Z? Seriously? That's like one of the most revolutionizing animes in the world!
As I understand, this list is being provided by a group of magazine writers saying that these choices are the literature of Anime. Well taking things literally, Anime is not literature and I would expect writers to be able to find a better way of describing what they are writing about.
Furthermore without understanding what their criteria was, it makes it difficult to judge whether or not an Anime should be on the list or where it should be placed. For example if writing and dialogue is more important than appearance and visual aesthetics then it should be stated.
Also it may have been better dividing the 50 into categories. I think that is how its done for many award ceremonies such as the Oscars, Grammies or the Razzies.
In the end since I did not see the article I am assuming the editorial staff needed space to fill in the magazine and this was the best they could do on short notice. Considering the amount of disagreement seen within this thread I could only assume that whereas they may have completed their goal in filling the space, they did a poor job of doing so.

Thanx Shin Ryuga!!!!
I disagree with this list for one reason...no samurai jack, no Zoids, and no inuyasha! I can't believe this list didn't include aleast one of these. I didn't really watch very much of Cowboy Bebop and so it didn't really catch my interest.
oops...they saw us...*to you* Hi...you didn't just see that...
I completely disagree with the list. They left Inuyasha out because they didn't like how
it ended. Why they left out Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, and many, many,
others I have no idea. But I would say this definetely does not count as the top 50 is
because it was just their opinions and other magazines and not the readers.
Life and Death are always one and the sameEVEN IF A RAINBOW IS BROKEN THERE'S STILL THE SKY
i will agree with you on that one its not a list just some one opien
the one and only show that rocks my socks
the one show that i cant live
with out.
soul society will live on forever in the minds of its poeple!!!
Not sure if I agree with all of those..
I do agree with FMA being up higher though.
FMA has to be one of the only anime I have enjoyed from start to finish. And with so much emotion.
But I think Wolf's rain should be on there somewhere.
That one is a great classice legend.
for all u ppl out there itching ur heads. i tell u y naruto ,deathnote, bleach, etc., all the major sj titles did not make this list. many of the series r not fully aired in north america. such as naruto. this is what they had to say,"naruto is not fully aired and we believe the shippuden part of the series is far better." or something like that.
and as for inu yasha, they believe that the ending was wrong and did not finish the story(see the worst anime endings article). besides the ending was not created by Rumiko Takahashi,as the manga still continues.this is what happens when the anime gets ahead of an unfinished manga series
