I myself have bought the DVD set. It's one of my proud collections. A total worth-buy. It comes with a lot of great features that are kept aside in the TV series.

The vision of escaflowne was ok as a series in opinion. At times it was really boring to me but still I liked the story behind it. But then they made escaflowne the movie which to me was a lot easier to get into than the series. I still wouldn't mind given the show another shot but frankly I don't won't won't to get envolved in another anime right now.

I just picked the series up a few days ago and I'm nearly done with it. So far I am very pleased with it, I enjoy the storyline and the animation it's self is pretty good for that time.

Re: The Vision of Escaflowne (anime)

Now this series was quite special the first time I saw it on Fox TV sooooooo long ago, probably the last months I watched T.V. and woke up at around 5:00 A.M. to see the saturday monring cartoons...which in that time, was exclusively to watch "Escaflowne" coincidentally.

Saddly, the series only made it half way....till the episode when Hitomi got somewhat "Brought back" to the real word because of a doppleganger who stole the place of some kind of divinist....though I'm not certain of all the details....though I still have fleeting images of that episode in my mind...it "WAS THE LAST EPISODE THEY AIRES AND IT MADE ME MAD TO THE POINT OF NO LONGER GETTING UP IN THE MORNING AND STAYING GLUED TO THE TELEVISION!!!)

Afterwards, when we got an upgrade on our computer....(we went from a 25 MHz to an 850 MHz back in 2001-2002), I finally discovered the internet and it's many possibilities through friends who already occult adepts of every crank of this unknown world that I hadn't discovered yet. That led be to look for the anime series, but didn't find it at first. It took other various anime viewings, and discovering the presence of the movie of Escaflowne before I could finally watch the series in super bad quality and subtitled in Japanese version of the anime, but finally it was complete!!!!

Took a while before I could finally see it in all it's glory in a DVD player at my friends place. I could almost call this anime "The" start of my anime liking interests. Since then, I discovered Maaya Sakamoto as a singer and various voice actors that led me to other anime....and well...now....Escaflowne is still one of my all time favorites. The music is great, the animation is great and well, the story was very very touching and was first to introduce me that cartoons could give off complicated emotions and not just be entertaining for small kids that needed to be kept quiet while the parents prepared dinner or things like that.

With all that in mind, I think I've watched enough anime now to understand that the meaning in each anime is different, but similar...which is why sometimes I tend to stop watching them when I feel that something is missing. Anime is not always well made and you really have to look hard and listen to other people's opinion ot discover those who are really worth it and not just out there to act as mere entertainement on a rainy day. It's more than hollywood for me and sometimes touches the lines of real life...(grave of the firefies is one example). I think I've ran out of ideas to add upon so that's that for now.

P.S.: Anyone who hasn't watched it yet, give it about 3-4 episodes, if your still not hooked...well, maybe you just can't forget the real world for 23 minutes in this type of anime and find yourself something that moves out, hopefully positively. With that....I really need to finish reading a book for classes, only 10 pages left :P
