I heard that the adaptation for Akira was canceled, wasn't it? Also, if this is really real, I'm gonna laugh my butt off when I see some muscular american dude plays Ichigo...

Greaaaaaat. I'm just gonna say it first. This is gonna blow. I guess all these American directors don't know that anime movies should be done in only in Japan, or not at all. They should have learned from DBZ: Evolution. Blah. Not that I like Bleach sooo much that I'd care buuuuut Akira better not be ruined.Warner Bros. prepping film adaptation of 'Bleach' manga (exclusive)
Warner Bros., already developing an adaptation of the manga "Akira," is in the process of securing the movie rights to "Bleach."
Peter Segal is in negotiations to produce, though not direct, the adaptation with Viz Media, the anime publishing house that releases the books in English in the U.S. Michael Ewing, Segal's partner at Callahan Filmworks, will also produce.
The story centers on a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead. A fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer all her power to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy taking over her job as a fighter of evil.
The manga, written and drawn by Tite Kubo, has been published in weekly installments in Japan since 2001. Viz has collected the stories in graphic novel format, so far releasing 29 volumes.
"Bleach" has been adapted into an anime TV series that airs in Japan. An English version airs on Cartoon Network and Canada's YTV. In Japan, the title has spawned features and a musical.
As the director of such comedies as "Get Smart" and "50 First Dates," Segal might seem an odd choice to shepherd the "Bleach" adaptation, but he's been seeking to expand his portfolio by taking on darker, more action-oriented material.
Thoughts!

I hope it doesn't suck. While there have been a few good adaptations of animes for every one death note there are ten Cassherns. Besides, American treatments of animes usually suck. Let's hope they and the Cowboy Bebop crowd get it right.
Oh God. I hope like crazy they don't ruin it. I love Bleach and it'd suck so much if they do.
I'm totally in love. Sadis + yinyangAio1 forever. <3 (Yes, we're together irl. We're engaged.) Also, if you liked/dated him, please stay off my page.
i don't know, bleach is not only actiony, it's very sci-fi-ish. they are going to need A LOT of special affect to make this happen, and if this movie ends up being a low-budget movie then it's gonna suck. But if they use good special affects (maybe 3-D like avatar) then it can work. ANd about the whole ichigo being american thing. When it comes to cartoons people rarely look a certain race. A tall orange haired pale guy does not necessarily mean japanesse.
All I'm saying is most of the anime and video game adaptations have been unable to live up to the fans expectations. And Bleach will be very difficult to pull off to the American audience.
But a 'shinigami' wearing a kimono and wielding a katana definitely says Japanese.Originally Posted by sangogirl
