No, Spongebob is an American Cartoon.
I would that No it is NOT amine because it was not made in japan, and two it does not have a story based plot to it like anime.. It is Just a show on nick that has gain ground really fast with kids..

Unfortunately, being made in Japan is not by itself, an indication if a series is Anime... the cartoon series 'Batman Beyond', 'X-Men Evolution' and 'GI Joe Sigma 6' were all animated by Japanese studios, but clearly are not Anime, as they were not written and targeted for a Japanese audience. On the other hand, the upcoming 'Space Battleship Yamato' sequel (which is definitely a Japanese Anime iconic series) is being produced by a Korean animation studio... And then you have these hybrids that are difficult to classify, such as the 'Witchblade' series, which is based on an American comic book franchise, but is clearly targeted for a Japanese audience. And the 'Highlander: The Search for Vengeance' movie that is based on a Hollywood TV series...Quote:

spongebob squarepants is an american animation...a kids show...made in america of course...so,it's not an anime..
Good animation does not equal anime. There is this tendency among otaku that there is no good American animation and therefore if some American animation is. Good it must barrow or be made like an anime. But remember earlier anime was influenced by Walt Disney.
